The Islamic Excellence Awards 1441H/2020AD organised by the National Dakwah Council is designed to showcase outstanding excellence of individuals and organisations in various fields including academic, corporate, business and social advocacy. The diversity of the recipients reflect the relevance and importance of the enduring values of Islam in achieving inclusive and equitable success that is compatible with the global landscape.
The recipients of IEA 1441H/2020AD are some of the most outstanding performers in their respective fields and comprise of members from religious, academic, social, professional, corporate and business backgrounds.

The highlight of the Programme is the IEA 1441H/2020AD Appreciation Night, an Awards presentation ceremony accompanied by dinner. The theme of the Appreciation Night is Islamic-Malay, with Islamic calligraphy and geometry combined with Malay Kampung elements of tropical and traditional culture.
The colour theme of the evening will be Emerald Green. The Ballroom is expected to seat 1000-1200 on the night, with carefully curated booth displays in the foyer area and surrounded by cocktail tables.
Particular emphasis is focused on the religious needs of attendees, with a designated prayer room for 80pax, and an additional communal surau within the vicinity with a capacity of 140pax at any one time. Bathrooms are equipped with ablution facilities.

YABhg. Tun Dr. Daim bin Zainuddin
Tun Dr. Daim bin Zainuddin is a Barrister-at-Law from Lincoln’s Inn, London and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Arts and Social Sciences from Universiti Malaya. He was a Visiting Fellow at Cambridge University, UK, a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University and a Visiting Scholar at University of California, Berkeley.
Tun Dr. Daim was a multiple term Member of Parliament from Kuala Muda and Merbok and two-time Finance Minister of Malaysia. Known as an economics, banking and politics whiz, Tun was intrumental in strategising the Malaysian economy through the Asian Economic Crisis in the 1980s and 1990s.
Tun Daim was Chairman of the Labuan Development Authority, the Northern Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) between Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, Joint Chairman of the Langkawi Development Authority and Special Representative at the East ASEAN Growth (EAGA) between Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and the Philippines.
Tun provides advice on Malaysia’s economic and institutional reforms through the chairing of the Council of Eminent Persons. He also actively engages with various African governments on economic strategy and planning. Tun also served as Special Envoy to YAB Prime Minister of Malaysia in March 2019.
Tun Dr. Daim bin Zainuddin is the Founder Chairman of the International Commercial Bank Group. Tun was conferred the Seri Setia Mahkota Award in 1991 by His Majesty The Yang di-Pertuan Agong IX Almarhum Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Yussuf Izzuddin Shah Ghafarullahu-Lah , which carries the title “Tun”.
YBhg. Tan Sri Dr. Jemilah Hj. Mahmood
Tan Sri Dr. Jemilah Hj. Mahmood is the Founder of the first and most successful medical charity in Malaysia. A medical doctor from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, with a Masters in Obstetrics & Gynaecology from the same university and a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists United Kingdom.
Her medical career included positions at Kuala Lumpur General Hospital and Newcastle University; as lecturer in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Medical Faculty of UKM; Treasurer of the Malaysian Obstetrical & Gynaecological Organization and a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at a leading private hospital.
Tan Sri Dr. Jemilah has held many board positions in NGOs and INGOs and is the recipient of numerous national and international awards for her contribution to civil society, including the inaugural Isa Award for Service to Humanity in May 2013 and the Merdeka Award in 2015. More recently, Tan Sri Dr. Jemilah was the first Malaysian to receive the ASEAN Prize Award in 2019.
Tan Sri Dr. Jemilah was the Chief of the World Humanitarian Summit secretariat at the United Nations in New York. Her other previous appointments include Chief of the Humanitarian Response Branch at UNFPA; Senior Fellow at Khazanah Nasional Berhad in Malaysia’s Khazanah Research and Investment Strategy Division, and Senior Visiting Research Fellow at the Humanitarian Futures Programme at Kings College in London. In 2006, she was one of 16 members appointed by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to the Advisory Group of the Central Emergency Response Fund.
Tan Sri Dr. Jemilah is currently serving as Under Secretary General for Partnerships at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) based in Switzerland.
Perdana Leadership Foundation
YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad
Perdana Leadership Foundation was chartered in January 2003 as a non-profit organisation, founded with gifts from people who supported the vision of a thriving research and learning institution dedicated to the study of Malaysian leadership and nation-building.
The Foundation’s physical home in Precinct 8, Putrajaya, was completed in October 2003. The stately building now houses the Perdana Library, an auditorium as well as a multi-purpose hall in addition to the offices of the Foundation’s Honorary President, Malaysia’s fourth and seventh Prime Minister, YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad. Tun Dr. Mahathir is one of the most recognisable Muslim leaders and a seasoned Head of State.
A tax-exempt, non-profit organisation, the Foundation intends to become the premier institution for the study of Malaysia’s Prime Ministers and the central resource centre for research into national stewardship as well as a platform for reflection, debate, and discussion with distinguished figures in Malaysian leadership.
The Perdana Leadership Foundation aims to highlight the contribution of Malaysia’s past Prime Ministers in the social, economic and political development of the nation. The Foundation also aims to create awareness of the development process of the nation and draw lessons from the nation’s history to enhance future development.
The Foundation also has a broader objective i.e. to promote global understanding by providing a channel for scholars and thinkers to undertake research and idea-sharing for lasting, peaceful resolutions.
Jeffrey Cheah Foundation
YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah Fook Ling
The Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF) is founded on the fundamental premise of giving to society, a philosophy that has governed the Sunway Education Trust Fund since its inception in 1997. Through the unique not-for-profit structure of the Foundation, operating surpluses are ploughed back into the institutions or disbursed as scholarships, research grants and expansion of faculty and facilities to ensure sustainable and quality education.
In 2010, the Sunway Education Trust Fund was officially converted into the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation where the ownership and equity rights of Sunway Education Group’s 12 learning institutions worth more than RM720 million (now in excess of RM1 billion) were transferred to the Foundation, making it the largest education-focused social enterprise for education in Malaysia. Today, Sunway Education Group is owned and governed by the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation.
Jeffrey Cheah Foundation is governed by a distinguished Board of Trustees with Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj, the Sultan of Selangor as its Royal Patron. Tan Sri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah is the Founding Trustee of the eponymous foundation.
The Foundation has also forged academic ties with some of the world’s most renowned institutions including Harvard University, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Monash University, Lancaster University and Le Cordon Bleu, allowing two-way flow of scholars and researchers between Sunway Education Group and the world-class institutions in developing and improving the academic standards of teaching and research in Malaysia.
As of 2019, the Foundation has awarded more than RM482 million in scholarships to thousands of deserving students in various fields of study.

Tan Sri Dr. Mohd. Kamal Hassan
Born in Pasir Mas, Kelantan, in 1942, Mohd. Kamal b. Hassan obtained his bachelor’s degree in 1966 (1st Class Hons. in Islamic Studies) from University of Malaya, and M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D from Columbia University, New York in 1970, 1972 and 1976 respectively.
His area of specialisation is contemporary Islamic thought with special reference to Southeast Asia. He was Head of Dept. of Usuluddin and Philosophy in U.K.M in 1979 and later Coordinator of the Diploma in Islamic Studies Programme in the Faculty of Islamic Studies.
In 1982, he was involved in the initial planning for the establishment of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) to be established in 1983. He was appointed as Shaikh al-Kulliyyah and Founding Dean of the Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences in 1990.
From 1997 until 1999 he was the First Holder of the Malaysian Chair of Islam in Southeast Asia at the Center for Christian-Muslim Understanding at Georgetown University, Washington D.C. He became the 3rd Rector fo IIUM from 1999 until 2006, before being appointed a Visiting Professor at University Brunei Darussalam for several years. He also taught postgraduate courses at ISTAC from 2010 until 2015. He was promoted to be a Distinguished Professor in 2010 and an Emeritus Professor in 2018. After ending his contract with IIUM, he was involved as a member of the High Level Committee appointed by the Council of Rulers chaired by YABhg. Tun Ahmad Sarji to evaluate the performance of Islamic institutions in the Federal Territories.
He is now attached to Institut Latihan Islam Malaysia as an Honorary Fellow of JAKIM. His latest academic work which he produced with several scientists in IIUM and UITM is entitled “Natural Science from the Worldview of the Qur’an” in three volumes which covers the fields of Biology, Physics and Chemistry. It was published by ITBM in 2018.
YBhg. Professor Emeritus
Datuk Dr. Osman bin Bakar
Dr. Osman Bakar is a Distinguished Professor and the Second Occupant of the Al-Ghazali Chair of Islamic Thought at ISTAC, International Islamic University, Malaysia. He was formerly Director of the Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Centre for Islamic Studies (SOASCIS), Universiti Brunei Darussalam. He is concurrently Emeritus Professor of Philosophy of Science at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur.
He has published 25 books and over 300 articles on Islamic thought and civilization, particularly on Islamic philosophy and science. He also writes on contemporary Islam and inter-religious and inter-civilizational dialogue. He has served as advisor and consultant to a variety of international academic and professional organizations and institutions, including UNESCO and The Qatar Foundation. He served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Malaya (1995-2000) and was awarded a Datukship by the Malaysian King in 2000.
YBhg. Dr. Nur Adlyka bt Ainul Annuar
Dr. Nur Adlyka, also known as “Ratu Lohong Hitam” (Black Hole Queen), is a Malaysian astrophysicist, currently working as a senior lecturer at the Department of Applied Physics, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). She gained recognition in 2017 when the research that she led on the discovery of a hidden supermassive black hole in a nearby galaxy made international news headlines. This resulted in world-wide recognition of her research, especially in Malaysia.
Among the awards she received as a result of this discovery was the National Maulidur Rasul Award in 2017. She also received official congratulatory letters from the then Prime Minister and the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.
Dr. Nur Adlyka obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Physics & Astrophysics from the University of Sheffield, UK in 2013 and in 2017, her PhD degree in Astrophysics at Durham University, UK at 27 years of age. In 2016, she received an award from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), USA, for a research that she was involved in, as part as the NuSTAR telescope Extragalactic Survey Group.
Dr. Nur Adlyka is now still continuing her research in the astrophysics field at UKM, and working with astrophysicists from all around the world. She is also actively engaging herself with school and university students, as well as the general public in many public talks and outreach activities organised by different individuals and organisations, including the government, to help increase the popularity and awareness of astronomy and science in general. In 2019, she was selected as a member of the Young Scientists Network – Academy of Sciences Malaysia, which consists of the top young scientists in Malaysia.
International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM)
IIUM was founded on 20th May 1983 by the Government of Malaysia. It was founded under the Companies Act 1965 with English and Arabic as the medium of instructions to enhance its global presence.
IIUM integrates Islamic values and worldview into its social, humanities, scientific and technical curricula likened to a Garden of Knowledge and Virtue that defines its raison d’etre. At the centre of the IIUM logo is the Qur’ān that contains the Revelation of Allah (SWT) and the Knowledge which is absolute and above all human knowledge. MyCar is the number one Malaysian homegrown e-hailing ride application that provides on-demand passenger transport service across 13 major cities in Malaysia.
MyCar began operating officially on February 2018 and is owned by Platform Apps Sdn Bhd, a technology company founded by Mohd Noah Maideen.
The application can help drivers gain access to consumer demand in the growing e-hailing market and generate more income. As of today, there are about 96,000 drivers registered with MyCar with 20% being women drivers. MyCar serves more than 2 million passengers a month.
The MyCar application is equipped with an SOS button as a security measure for passengers and drivers. To ensure passenger safety, MyCar also performs stringent checks before a driver is allowed on the platform.
MyCar envisions is to be the preferred e-hailing provider in the region by offering affordable modes of transportation to customers.
Free Palestine by
Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organization (MAPIM)
The Free Palestine Campaign in Malaysia spearheaded by the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisation (MAPIM) was a successful humanitarian aid campaign for the plight of Palestinians.
The campaign contributed more than RM4million in humanitarian aid, educational sponsorship, orphanage care, medical care, micro credit and rebuilding homes in Gaza.
MAPIM is one of the prominent groups from Malaysia that advocates the plight of those who are oppressed and suffering from internal conflicts or religious discriminations. It started as a resolution in the Muslim Congress of Malaysia in 2006 and formalised through a consensus amongst 200 Islamic organizations at the Malaysian Conference of Islamic NGOs in 2008.
It focuses its work on fundamental principles of ummah building including unity, justice and peace. It dedicates its resources to develop Islamic individual and community practices, social development, humanitarian and welfare assistance.
EZ Qurban Sdn Bhd
EZ Qurban (EZQ) was established in 2007 and is a company that offers akikah and korban execution services overseas. EZQ plays a role in providing Muslims, particularly in Malaysia, easier and faster execution of akikah and korban.
